Moderation, IP, and Takedown Handling

OGAL provides ownership and provenance. It does not run policy for you. This page outlines recommended processes for reporting, review, and takedown handling so platforms can stay consistent while still honoring creator ownership.

What OGAL Does and Does Not Enforce​

OGAL enforces:

  • canonical asset identity
  • ownership and update rights
  • provenance history

OGAL does not enforce:

  • content legality or safety
  • community standards
  • copyright or trademark judgments
  • platform access or visibility
  • takedown outcomes

Platforms remain the authority for what appears in their experiences.

A consistent reporting flow reduces risk and helps creators understand outcomes.

  1. Intake

    • Provide a clear report form with asset ID, URL, and reason.
    • Accept both logged-in and public submissions.

  2. Triage

    • Classify report type (IP, safety, fraud, spam, policy violation).
    • Prioritize urgent safety or legal issues.

  3. Review

    • Verify the asset’s OGAL identity and ownership.
    • Assess evidence and applicable policies.
    • If needed, request clarification from the reporter or creator.

  4. Decision

    • Choose an action (no action, warn, restrict, remove).
    • Record the decision with timestamps and reviewer notes.

  5. Appeal

    • Provide a path for creators to request reconsideration.
    • Timebox responses and keep a final decision log.

Takedown Handling Guidelines​

If you remove or restrict access to an asset, distinguish between on-platform availability and on-ledger ownership.

  • Remove or restrict visibility in your product while preserving the OGAL record.
  • Do not alter ownership history or metadata on behalf of a reporter.
  • Document the reason and the policy basis.
  • Allow reinstatement if the dispute is resolved.

OGAL should be treated like a neutral registry; your platform is responsible for access and enforcement.

Example Policy Language (Template)​

Use the following language as a starting point in your terms or moderation policy:

Asset Availability: Our platform may restrict, remove, or limit access to user-generated assets that violate our policies or applicable law. These actions only affect availability within our product and do not alter the underlying asset’s ownership or provenance in OGAL.

Reporting: Any user may report a suspected violation. Reports should include the asset’s OGAL ID, a description of the issue, and supporting evidence.

Review & Appeals: We review reports using our community standards and legal obligations. Creators may appeal decisions within 30 days. Final outcomes are logged and may be revisited if new evidence is provided.

Implementation Checklist​

Use this checklist to implement consistent procedures:

  • A report form that captures OGAL asset ID, URL, and reason
  • Clear categories for report triage (IP, safety, fraud, spam)
  • Reviewer guidance on how OGAL ownership is verified
  • A decision log with timestamps and policy citations
  • A visibility toggle that leaves OGAL ownership intact
  • A creator notification workflow with appeal instructions
  • A reinstatement path after dispute resolution
